The most dangerous phrase in the language is, “we’ve always done it this way.”

"Come on, let’s mix it up!" The heart surgeon says.
"B-but we’ve always done it this way!" The other replies, "this is how you replace a heart valve."
"That’s the most dangerous phrase in the human language!" The first surgeon replies haughtily as he inputs a fruit loop into the patient’s heart. "This will be his valve. He will be a fruit loop in a world of Cheerios."

(taken from this post on the experiments of Harry Harlow)
This is serious business, because this is a large part of how sexism, racism, homophobia, rape culture, ethnocentrism, etc. continue to happen.

That bullshit heart surgery example doesn’t even make sense though, does that person think that we’re still doing heart surgery the exact same way we’ve always done heart surgery? As if medicine isn’t constantly changing and updating? Wow it’s almost like people are finding excuses to not have to think critically about the world!

As the number of deaths in Gaza top 1000, The Times of Israel reports about an owl being hurt.

This is it. This is the Israel-Palestine “conflict” from Israel’s perspective.

i thought this was photoshopped but then - http://www.timesofisrael.com/owl-hurt-by-hamas-fire-recovering/

I can’t believe it, it sound like a JOKE.

I’m not exactly pro Israel, but if you go to the front page of the site, it all seems pretty serious. The first sentence also acknowledges that this isn’t really serious news.Just to add btw, are news sites not allowed to post any kind of good news anymore from any of their reporters that want to write on it? Or is it just Israel because of the massive amount of hate its getting?

"Debt is a trap, especially student debt, which is enormous, far larger than credit card debt. It’s a trap for the rest of your life because the laws are designed so that you can’t get out of it. If a business, say, gets in too much debt, it can declare bankruptcy but individuals can almost never be relieved of student debt through bankruptcy." .. (Noam Chomsky)
I found a copy of the Twilight AU that became 50 Shades of Grey.

  • It’s called Master of the Universe.
  • It was originally published on Fanfiction.net (aka where fanfiction goes to die).
  • E.L. James’ pen name was Snowqueens Icedragon because of course it was.
  • Snowqueens Icedragon does not use quotation marks.
  • She does, however, make up expressions like "my very small inner goddess sways in a gentle victorious samba" and “I can almost hear his sphinx-like smile through the phone.”
  • They spend more time filling out sex-related paperwork than they do actually having sex.
  • This is my reaction to all of the sex scenes:

  • Because the human body doesn’t work like that
  • This is my reaction to everything else:
  • image

  • Because the english language doesn’t work like that.

The 50 Shades of Grey trailer just dropped, so here’s a link to the original Twilight fanfiction that the book is “based” off of, because if you’re gonna read the book before you see the movie you might as well read it in its original format.

Good lord why?! This is absolutely awful. The use of “English” is incredibly painful to read, regardless of the content.

Fun History Fact,
Cleopatra was a member of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, a Greek family that ruled Egypt after inheriting the kingdom from Alexander the Great.
The Ptolemy’s practiced strict intermarriage within the family to preserve their royal line.  Cleopatra was a tenth generation Ptolemy.
Odds are she wasn’t very attractive.
